I strive to capture the visceral quality of the animal; be it the power and sensuality of the bull, gracefulness of the horse, or fragile innocence of the bird. I believe animals can stir strong, human emotions at the subconscious level. Having grown up on a horse's back, I have developed a deep appreciation and connection to animals.
My introduction to sculpture was a crash course in human anatomy, working from a live nude in 2004 at the University of Washington. I graduated in 2006 having learned the lost wax casting process, alongside welding, chasing, patina as well as other methods of metal fabrication.
Upon graduation I was commissioned by the graduating class of UW to sculpt a monumental statue of the UW Husky to be placed on the front terrace of the Student Union Building. It was completed and placed in October of 2007.
Along the way I became an apprentice to a medallic sculptor. An incredible mentor, she introduced me to an entirely new way to express myself through relief sculpture.
I am a partner at Viking Fire Foundry, a co-op business located in Seattle, Washington, where I continue to develop my skill in the casting process from mold-making to patina. Located within an artist co-op, it is an exciting and dynamic place to work and create art.
